Why Is My Car Overheating?

The engine's propensity to run hot when it doesn't get what it needs is a driver's worst nightmare. Like any other relationship, you need to find out just why your engine is tempered and running hot. Typical troubles like the following can lead to a hot engine.

INFINITI driver

Water Pump

If your water pump fails, your engine might overheat. Over time, a neglected water pump can build up corrosion and begin leaking. When this happens, your engine is going to start to wear down as well slowly. Be sure to look for leaks and other signs of water pump failure to tell our mechanics when you arrive for your diagnostic.

Coolant System

A coolant system provides coolant to your engine and keeps its temperatures within normal realms. Sometimes if you run out of coolant or if your system cracks completely, things begin to look very intolerable for your engine. As the name implies, coolant keeps your engine running cooler and lubricates its parts. When this fluid is missing, things can go north on your engine's temperature in a hurry.

Thermostat

When you have thermostat failure, your vehicle cannot determine the right amount of coolant to feed to the engine. That's because your temperature isn't reading out correctly. Your car may think things are perfectly normal despite your vehicle overheating and not provide the correct amount of coolant to your engine. Fans on your radiator system can also malfunction, leading to overheating.

Belts and Hoses

Your belts and hoses keep your components flowing along nicely. Your radiator has a couple of these necessary components, and when things in this system break, your engine is often the victim of overheating. Hoses are notorious for developing cracks when they're very old as well, and this can keep them from adequately delivering fluid to the radiator.

Radiator Issues

A radiator and fan system keeps your engine's temperature low enough to operate safely and without damage. When a radiator fails, it's wartime in your engine system. Since the radiator helps to deliver and regulate coolant to your engine, a broken radiator will quickly lead to engine failure through overheating.

An overheating engine can damage your engine altogether and eventually lead to thousands of dollars in repairs. Don't let it get that far! Contact our friendly service team to get a full computer diagnostic and inspection. Your engine will calm down, but it needs a professional technician to tackle its issues.
