Car Sounds And What The Issues Could Be

No matter what type of car you own, servicing the vehicle is a must. Failure to do so may result in costly repairs if not addressed early on. One indication that your car is due for servicing is with any unusual noise. Here we have narrowed down some most commonly experienced sounds that may need mechanical guidance.

Squeaky Brakes

The squeaking sound may be heard when the components of the brakes are due for replacement. When the pads and rotors start to become thin or worn, there is a need to have the brake pads replaced immediately. A mechanic is the one to work on the squeaky brakes by lubricating or replacing the worn-out parts.

Engine Rattling

An engine is also prone to challenges. When rattling noise is heard from that section, it's an indication of premature ignition. Other experts would call it pre-detonation. The ignition issue may result from improper ignition timing, overheating of the engine, or the inappropriate fuel octane. Some of these issues arise from the mixing of fuel and gas in the engine cylinder. This condition is what will cause an early ignition and may also cause damages to the valves, connecting rods and pistons.

Engine Clicking

When you detect a clicking noise from the engine, you should check the oil level in the engine. Use a dipstick for that job. If the oil levels are below the required, add more to restore it to its recommended level. If the problem persists, then you would need to check on the upper valve train. There may be damaged or worn parts or excessive valve lash.

Knocking From Under the Hood

A knocking sound under the hood may call for immediate attention. Several reasons for the noise could be the real cause. They can be an issue with the valves, pistons, connecting rods, and other significant components.

Engine Squealing

There is also a wide range of issues that can cause squealing engine noise. For those who own old vehicle models, the reason could be worn or loose accessory belts that operate various components such as the A/C compressor, power steering pump, or the alternator. For the newer vehicle owners, this problem may result from the misalignment or improper tension of the serpentine belt.
