The World’s First VC-Turbo Engine
The INFINITI VC-Turbo engine uses an advanced system to manage the height of a piston’s stroke. This allows the engine to have the performance characteristics of a naturally aspirated V-6 engine while maintaining the fuel efficiency and torque characteristics of a smaller 4-cylinder engine. So how does the engine work? The engine can completely alter the compression ratio to target increased horsepower or increased fuel efficiency.
There are four basic steps to changing the compression ratio. The first step involves a small electric motor rotates an actuator arm. Second, the actuator arm rotates a control shaft. Third, the lower link changes the angle of the multi-link which is connected to the upper link. Finally, the upper link moves from the multi-links position which causes the piston to move up and down, changing the compression ratio. The bottom line? The VC-Turbo engine will give you power when you need it and allow you to avoid frequent trips to the fuel pump.
