Although gasoline-powered vehicles are sure to remain around for years to come, we are well and truly starting to enter the age of electric automobiles. Already countries like China, India, Norway, France and the United Kingdom have announced plans to eventually ban the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles in the future in favor of cleaner electric vehicles. As part of this, the automaker recently announced that it would begin slowly phasing out gasoline-powered vehicles in the future and, from 2021 onwards, all new INFINITI models will feature some form of an electric powertrain.
INFINITI’s Soon-to-Be All-Electric Lineup
Beginning in 2021, every new INFINITI model will feature an electric drivetrain. Although some existing models will continue to be available with a gasoline-only engine, all new models released after 2021 will be either hybrid, plug-in hybrids or fully electric EVs. Furthermore, the company plans to eventually phase out gasoline vehicles all-together but has not yet announced a specific timetable as to when this will occur. Still, INFINITI expects that electric vehicles will already comprise at least 50 percent of its total sales by 2025.
Drivers looking to get their hands on INFINITI’s first fully electric vehicle (EV) will be able to do so in 2021, and the company plans to extend its lineup to include other fully electric vehicles shortly after. As well, drivers can also look forward to a wide range of new hybrids and plug-in hybrids-although few details have yet to be released about the specific offerings. Nonetheless, the growing demand for hybrids and other electric vehicles means that the future definitely looks bright for INFINITI.
