New INFINITI vehicles have a feature called Intelligent All Wheel Drive, which means that they are essentially rear wheel drive vehicles until they encounter situations that call for all wheel drive. When this happens, the Intelligent All Wheel Drive system diverts up to 50 percent of the vehicle’s power to the front wheels for some added traction and control. Obviously, this can help you when you find yourself on an icy road, but it doesn’t mean that you’re completely safe.

If you find yourself driving your INFINITI onto an icy road, your Intelligent All Wheel Drive system will kick in and make the going a little easier, but you still need to take responsibility for your own driving. Never drive faster than you think you can, maintain a safe distance between yourself and the car in front of you, and don’t slam on your brakes if you feel yourself start to lose control. If you have to stop, slowly release the gas pedal, and lightly pump the brakes. If you start to slide, steer in the direction of the skid without jerking the wheel too hard or slamming on your brakes.

As great as the Intelligent All Wheel Drive is, no vehicle is completely safe on icy roads. If your vehicle is ever damaged in an accident or you think your own all wheel drive system needs some work, don’t hesitate to bring your vehicle to our dealership. We will be happy to make any repairs that you need or that will help keep you safe this winter.
